The Season of Love

Thank you for being in my life and sharing your gifts with me.
We have a wonderful person and a dear friend of mine, coming to San Antonio tomorrow. Toni Bergins, creator of Journey Dance, will be here all week, sharing her heart, her soul, her emotions, her spirit with us. You are invited to attend any or all of the 5 classes she will be offering during the Journey Dance Teacher Training Module 2. We are soo blessed to have an amazing community of movers, shakers, dancers, shape-shifters, and fortunate to share our community with leaders like Toni.
Please join us this week… it will be magical!
I will teach my 6:45 class in the morning, and then my other classes will be shared with Toni and Journey Dance. Please check the online schedule to see the shift in Nia/Journey Dance classes, and take advantage of every moment on the dance floor!

Journey Dance classes this week… just for YOU!
Wednesday 9:15am
Thursday 5:30pm
Friday 5:30pm
Sunday 10:00am
Sunday 4:00pm

Our big focus this week is on love… for all emotions come down to love. We will dive deep, go the distance, and access what is real and true… our authentic self.
I received the following from a fellow blogger… beautiful words from the mouth of babes. 4-8 year olds were asked, “What does Love mean?”  Read their answers. They brought tears…. for love is indeed what weaves our lives together and the purity of these babies answers is innocent and powerful… deep, wide, tall and broad.
Know you are deeply loved by me.
See you on the dance floor… Adelle

“When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.”  Rebecca – age 8
“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.” Billy – age 4
“Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other.”  Karl – age 5
“Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs.”  Chrissy – age 6
“Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired.”  Terri – age 4
“Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK.”  Danny – age 7
“Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.”  Bobby – age 7
“If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.”  Nikka – age 6
“Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.”  Noelle – age 7
“Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well.” Tommy – age 6
“During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore.’   Cindy – age 8
Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.”   Elaine-age 5
“Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford.”  Chris – age 7
“Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day.”  Mary Ann – age 4
“When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you.” (what an image!!)  Karen – age 7
“You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.” Jessica – age 8
The winner was a 4-year-old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry.”

Ask your spirit…

“Spirit is not a mystic concept. The spirit of a person is manifest in her aliveness, brightness of his eyes, in the resonance of her/his voice and in the ease and gracefulness of her/his movements. These qualities are related to and stem from a high level of energy in the body… Sensing the harmony between the internal pulsation of our body and that in the universe, we feel identified with the universal, with God.
We are like tuning forks vibrating at the same pitch (Alexander Lowen,1995)

In this day and time, we hear a lot about ‘mind, body, and spirit.’  It seems easier sometimes to identify with the mind and body then it does the spirit. Do you ever stop your body, calm your mind, and ask your spirit what she or he desires? The answer many times comes auto-magically… all we have to do is ask, acknowledge our uniqueness, and honor the request.

Bring your body and mind to class this Thanksgiving week, and honor what your spirit is desiring. Even if you don’t have an answer, its all in the dance… the dance of life. Spread your wings and set your spirit free to explore!

Joanie and I are team-teaching a special Thanksgiving day Nia class at 8:00am. Come move your body in gratitude and thanksgiving before the family joins you for a feast! I will also be teaching my class Tuesday morning at 6:45am, Wednesday at 9:15am, and Friday at 5:30pm.
Have a blessed and beautiful Thanksgiving!
With love, Adelle

Deep Roots that Connect Us

I left San Antonio early yesterday morning, a beautiful 75 degrees on its way to 82 by the afternoon. Two hours later, I landed in Denver, Colorado. It was 40 degrees and dropping. As we drove from the airport, I watched storms roll into the mountains, the sky darken and heavy sleet and rain begin to fall. The snowflakes started, and two hours later I was in Stoney’s  bar at the largest University of Oklahoma football watch party outside of Norman, Oklahoma. It was surreal as we sang the fight song, 300 people cheered on the team from 14 televisions, and snow blanketed the earth. And it was 22 degrees outside!

I woke up this morning to a winter wonderland, truly wondering where I was! As I was lying in bed, I inhaled deep breaths of gratitude for my somatic-based practices that ground me, and remind me that my home is my body, no matter where the world lands me. As I crawled out from under the down covers, placed my feet on the earth and stood up, I felt deeply appreciative of my base and the awareness of my legs’ stability and strength. I was home, with a deeply rooted sense of connection.
Do you sometimes feel yourself surrounded by chaotic movement and change, wondering where you are and where you have been?
Take a moment to notice your feet, your legs, your knees, your deep hip joints, and sense their stability, strength, and resilient design.
Thank the base of your body… and bring it to class this week to show your appreciation and gratitude for deep roots that connect you.
Your base… your body… your home.
See you on the dance floor!
All love, Adelle

You are Beautiful… Take the Time to Notice!

I looked in the mirror today, and saw somebody different. I was intrigued… I knew I hadn’t changed from the day before, yet who I observed was someone new.
Do you ever take the time to look at yourself and notice the beauty of your body, your emotional expressions, your inner spirit, your human-ness?
I was inspired by the words of Madisyn Taylor this morning when she talked about how many of us don’t take the time to notice and acknowledge how beautiful we are as humans. After reading her words, I stopped and reflected.

200 bones, 700 muscles, thousands of sensory receptors, countless possibilities for shape shifting, evolving, and appreciating every moment in union with our divine spirit, our deep emotions, our sacred vessel… our body.
Does each day bring change? Absolutely. Sometimes the change is not what we want, or desire, but it is the only constant of life. We all have a beautiful light that shines from within, no matter how much we change or how others see us. When we cut through preconcieved notions of how we should look, and simply appreciate our inner light and beauty, we free up so much energy.

Take the time today to look at yourself in the mirror and see your inner soul… see yourself in the pure light of love.
Divine love.

Come dance this week with your inner eyes turned on. We call it x-ray anatomy in Nia… seeing the potential of your beautiful self.
For you ARE beautiful.
