Move Out, Make Room, Celebrate!

Pearl Brewery Pic Est 1883

Beautiful day my friends!

This is a week of celebration, as The Synergy Studio welcomes our 10th year in The Pearl!

October 8, 2005, we moved from our previous location to The Pearl... wow! Reflect back on the change, the transformation, the fun! 🙂

What better way to celebrate then with dance, yoga, friends, and our greatest companion, our body?!!

Bring your body to the dance floor, and let’s celebrate in community! We will celebrate this week with some of our all -time favorite Nia routines, Agolo, Fantasia, Bliss and TraceVision. We will celebrate with Nia FreeDance. We will celebrate with Yoga! Yeah!

Angelique Kidjo

The name “Agolo” in the Fon language of Africa means “move out, make room” and announces the coming of spirit. Agolo, the song by the beautiful Angelique Kidjo, is a celebration of Mother Earth and our body. It is a song of hope, a call to the good powers of nature and to Aidohouedo, the great rainbow snake, the messenger of love and tenderness. 🙂

Let’s ‘move out, make room’ and celebrate abundance as we usher in the cool weather, and the beginning of our 10th year in The Pearl!

Yoga of the Hands, Dance of the Heart

Welcome to a beautiful week in San Antonio!

I LOVE when I sense the weather begin to change. 🙂

Life is about change and the freedom to choose something different.

I’ve been examining my day to day ‘reactions’ to different situations, and making conscious choices to ‘respond’ in a different way. By noticing the familiar feeling when it arises in my body, taking a few deep breaths, and changing my reaction to a thoughtful response, the energy shifts and I’m aware of an expansive sensation in my cells.

Its pretty wonderful, I must say. 🙂

Joanie and I have a new offering that starts this week! As one of the Yoga teacher at the studio is leaving for a job opportunity in Austin, we will be alternate teaching a Hatha Yoga Flow class on Sunday afternoons at 5:30, following our 4:00 Nia class. This class will be a great opportunity to consciously add Yoga to your Nia practice and enhance the sensations of strength, flexibility, and stability. We are very excited!

Bring your hands and your dancing heart this week to the studio, as we focus on the freedom to choose something different. Using the Lotus Hand Mudra, combined with breath, we will shed the light of awareness on our choices moment to moment, responding with love, enhancing the expanded sensation in our cells.

Yummy, yummy, delicious!

Love, Adelle

Strength, Prosperity, Well-being… Labor Day!

prosperity

Celebrate work, Celebrate play!

Labor Day is a “holiday dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country.” ~ www.dol.gov

I love the description of Labor Day. ‘Strength, Prosperity, Well-Being’ A perfect triad for Nia, a life-style practice that keeps on giving, day after day, class after class.

Let’s make every day a Labor Day!

Join me this week as we play with the sensations of strength and flexibility, energy in and energy out. When we pump the muscles in our body, mind, emotions and spirit, we create prosperity and well-being for our life.

The pumping sensation of our muscles keeps us strong, powerful, and also allows us to release and let go. It is the in and out motion that brings us well-being, and keeps us ready for each amazing day.

Join me this week, as we play with in/out, contraction/extension, strength/flexibility.

Classic Nia Tuesday 6:45am, Wednesday 9:15am, Friday 5:30pm, and Nia FREEDANCE Thursday 9:15am

And join Angie and me Thursday evening from 6:45-8:45 for an Amazing JourneyDance™ of Manifestation! We will create manifestation boards, and dance a fantastic manifestation dance. Afterwards, we hope you will join us for dinner somewhere in The Pearl.A night of fun, friendship and movement! 🙂

See you very soon!

Miracles of life

Dear Wonderful Friends,
Thank you to so many who have expressed their concern about my family and our place in Wimberley. I am filled with gratitude that my family evacuated before the house was overcome with the power of Mother Nature and the mighty Blanco River. Our hearts go out to the many families who are facing life without a home, and in some cases, without those they love. The loss in beautiful Wimberley, Texas, is immense.
It is reported that the landscape of the Blanco River changed in one hour, as the river swelled 40 feet with the power of 2 1/2 times Niagara Falls. Homes carried away, 500 year old trees uprooted. THAT is one powerful force of nature.
I am humbled by the outpouring of so many people, complete strangers in many cases, who have stepped in to help others. Wimberley is in action, cleaning up, even with the increased likelihood of more rain.
Life is truly a miracle. We can talk about it in an existential way, yet when change happens in nano-seconds, the appreciation grows thousand-fold.
Join me on the dance floor this week. Let’s dance the beautiful routine Miracle, saying Thank You for each moment, for our body, for life.
I love you all, Adelle

Courage, Confidence, and Resilience

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I took a fantastic Yoga class with our amazing Ashley Ludwick. Her focus was the Abhaya mudra, repeating “Courage, Confidence, and Resilience.”  We returned to the mudra, (left hand over heart and right hand palm open outward) many times in class, saying the words out loud, “Courage, Confidence, and Resilience.”

The class inspired me to teach ¡Bailando! this week. When I choreographed ¡Bailando!, I incorporated the Abhaya mudra in the last song… a song of connection to community, self, spirit, peace.

As many of you know, ¡Bailando! is an uplifting routine, that incorporates the core of the body as we move with Courage, Confidence and Resilience.

I hope you will join me this week! I teach for Angie tomorrow at 12:00, and again on Tuesday and Wednesday at my regular times. Friday, Joanie will be subbing for me as I travel to Santa Fe and step into the practice of 5Rhythms with master teacher Adam Barley.

I have danced with him before, and know that I will receive a lot from this packed weekend, called ‘You, Me, Us.’ With this 5Rhythms practice, it will require Courage, Confidence and Resilience.  I look forward to sharing with you when I return from this short weekend!

Love in abunDance to everyone!

Music and Movement creating the Magic!

Happy Weekend Nia Friends!

I am in Oklahoma, returning to San Antonio tomorrow. I have had a wonderful weekend with three of my children, being pampered, loved, and truly enJOYing where they are in life. Independent, creative, self-assured, happy… I am filled with so many blessings.
All of my children have amazing ears for music and a love of so many genres. One of the many pleasures I experience when we get together is turning each other on to the latest artists we have discovered, and it goes both ways. Music is always playing in everyone’s house. They all grew up surrounded by music, with mother always dancing, and its fun to see the evolution in their lives… its truly Magic!

We view Nia through the triad of Music, Movement and Magic. Music is the canvas upon which the body moves. Magic is what happens inside of us.  In class, when we connect music and movement, magic is created.
Every cell in our body is an ear, a sensory receptor that can hear. As we use our body to listen to music, sound impacts us on a kinesthetic level. Our body instinctively responds to the music it hears, and if left to its natural impulses, will move effortlessly to it.
I love to watch babies in their cribs or little children toddling around when music is played… their bodies move in a beautiful dance of life, responding to the vibrations of the music. Check out this video I posted on Facebook! It makes me laugh every time I see it. Talk about Magic!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwOj57XVoaI
The sound of music is one of the most powerful underlying creative forces in our universe. It is a powerful resonance that lies deep within the very heart of creation and existence. It is considered to be one of the oldest healing forms used by the Greeks, Chinese, East Indians, Tibetans, Egyptians, American Indians, Mayas, Incas and Aztecs. Music is tangible!
Sound vibrates our nervous system and creates sensation in our body. The physical resonance in our body creates energy and triggers chemical responses that have both positive and negative effects on the body, mind, emotions and spirit.
Music touches souls and awakens spirits.
Are you ready to create some magic?
Join me in class this week as we play with one of the BIG triads and foundations of Nia …
Music, Movement, Magic.

Music + Movement = Magic! Its a Magical week at The Synergy Studio!

Love in abunDance,
Adelle

Giving and Receiving… the Heart!

Friends… Love waves are coming your way!~~~~~

We are all spiritual beings, embodied in flesh, supported by love. During this time of constant change, chaos and quickening pace, it is natural to sense fear in our body, and approach the evolution with trepidation. Many situations seem like the opposite of loving. However, it is essential to remember that our souls chose to be here at this time and place in history, to be a part of humanity’s evolving and healing process. Every movement in the Universe is a movement towards love, and we must remember to choose love over fear as we approach our daily lives.

Join us on the dance floor this week, as we celebrate the heart, opening the chest… giving and receiving. Anatomically, the heart resides in the chest, surrounded and protected by the rib cage. It is the thoracic area of our spine, a location that holds tension, tightness, anxiety, fear… and love.

Through opening our heart, moving the thoracic spine,  and letting the energy flow, we tap into our divinity, helping and healing others through our presence, our time, our love. We also become the recipient of that omnipresent love… for it is all love.

This morning, Angie and I had a wonderful JourneyDance™ Energy of the Heart workshop… and we will continue the dance of the heart today at 4:00 with Nia.  My other classes this week will also focus on the heart center, opening to love, change and possibility. Tuesday 6:45am, Wednesday 9:15am, Friday 5:30pm.

“When we open our hearts in love instead of closing them in fear, we serve the divine process. We are all powerful spirits who took form at this time in order to serve our fellow humans, our planet, and the universe. As we find ways we can serve, our fear dissipates. Regardless of what actions we choose to take, the essential element will be the internal gesture of choosing to remain in love. This is all that is needed.”… Madisyn Taylor

See you on the dance floor!

In, out, around and through love… Adelle

Breath, Dance, Medicine… Passion

Breathing, Dancing Medicine Men and Women!
I’ve been on a passionate journey of breath, movement, and healing my entire life, exploring the mysteries of the body and the connection to our life force energy and to the Divine through the breath. I love that life is a journey, not a destination.
I am excited to bring Judith Kravitz, creator of Transformational Breath®, back to The Synergy Studio for a TB Seminar starting this Friday. I will be assisting Judith as a Senior Trainer and other trainers and facilitators from all over the US will be joining us. We have people coming in from all over the world to experience this Seminar. Some of these people will be joining us in my Nia classes!
Dance is medicine for the body, mind and spirit. Combine movement with breath, and wowsa… you’ve got the inner healer working his/her magic.

Join me this week and next for Dance, Breath, Medicine of “Prana“… one of the most beautiful routines ever released from Nia HQ. Native American music, focusing on breath, and sounding… movement medicine! I will be teaching Prana without verbal cues, and using only my breath to direct. If you haven’t experienced Prana, or this ‘silence within the sound’, come come come join us. I will be dancing “Prana” tomorrow, Tuesday 6:45am and Wednesday 9:15am.
This Friday’s 5:30 class this week is cancelled, due to the start of the Transformational Breath® Seminar at 6:00.
Then, join me and other Transformational Breathers for Sunday’s 4:00 class, next Tuesday’s 6:45am class, and next Wednesday 9:15am.  You have 5 chances to dance this powerful routine and experience your breath and movement in a unique and wonderful way.
Medicine Men and Women… See you on the dance floor!
With love in flowing abundance, Adelle

Adios Goodbyes, Bonjour Hellos

The last year of my life has been chalked full of goodbyes. I said goodbye to my mother, and others who transitioned. There were also goodbyes to dear friends who moved, changed direction, and many times I listened and grieved with others who said ‘goodbye’ to their careers, their stability, their livelihood. While it was a year of so much letting go, and so much grieving, every experience gave me an opportunity to reflect, express appreciation, and grow stronger in the essence of gratitude, and my belief in grace.

This year? I’m dedicating it to the year of hellos.  As one of my practices, I sit on the throne (ha…yes, I did say that), and read the daily affirmation from Miracle Consciousness. It is a life practice that connects me to the miracle of each life I encounter, seeing them as pure light, pure love. Today’s affirmation: I choose peace. I choose love. I choose joy. It is a choice.
Perfect for my year of hellos.

This was present in my in-box today, another perfect affirmation for my year of hellos:

I release the belief that anything or anyone outside of me can prevent my good. I participate in the circulation of blessings by giving generously and knowing I will receive in abundance. I keep my thoughts on gratitude and trust the constant flow of good in my life. I forgive myself and others for past hurts and receive the wealth of a peaceful heart.

They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights.—Psalm 36:8

I’ve always lived my life with the glass half-full, seeing the abundant opportunities around me and exuding optimism.

This is the year of hellos. Want to join me?

Engaging in the moment

From my amazing friend and colleague Adam Barley, a master 5Rhythms teacher in England. His words resonate deeply with me… passing them on. And yes, Gabrielle’s books are genius. So much wisdom in her glorious life on earth. Adelle

“To listen to the no-sound of the breath, expanding into the stillness and spaciousness that brings.

To tune into the same consciousness we find when we dance – aware of the body, it’s instincts and hunches about timing, space, and pace.

To allow the free flow and creative expression of our feelings in and out of relationship with others, including more body-awareness and embodied communication with our friends, lovers, and enemies, remembering how to speak straight from the heart, and listen with everything we have.

To totally engage in the moment to moment teachings and alchemy that the events of our lives are constantly giving us – whether in a brush with a stranger, an intimacy with our family, a conflict with a friend, or encounters with birth, death, sex, money, and creative endeavor. All the stuff of life has the potential for deep and profound personal evolution, both as healing and growth. Whether you dance daily at home, weekly at your local class, or in periodic high-octane blasts at workshops, a strong practice will create and strengthen pathways in your body-heart-mind that make this kind of engagement more readily available. Gabrielle Roth, the founder of this practice, communicated this kind of engagement with life so beautifully in all three of her books. (If you haven’t read them, just do it. They’re brilliant.) There’s something about movement practices that do this particularly well I think. Because they’re rooted in the body, they create pathways within us, new neural networks, that engage us with ourselves and each other in a very ‘whole’ way. Then off the dance floor those same pathways quite naturally get used to engage us in some mysterious way with life, allowing it to affect us more deeply and teach us more vibrantly, shaking us loose from our moorings of social convention, constantly nudging us awake.

Nudge me awake. More please. Next step. I’m waking up again. A little more. Listen. Yes. Now. Take a breath. This is it. Let love in. Let myself show. Let life hurt me. Let life bless me. Let go, let go, let go. Let go of letting go and stick with something long enough for creation to happen. Let this be. Here we come.

All these things happen all the time. There is no need for a dance floor. No need to move in a way that would look weird whilst shopping for vegetables at the market.

Now is the moment of power.” Adam Barley
